The event was held under the patronage of the Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World (PAEW) and the Council of Young Scientists of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (CYS of MES).
‘Students are the main driver of society and economy development. They solve multifunctional problems, helping to fulfil the tasks of energy transition, decarbonisation and climate neutrality for our country and the whole world in the context of the doctrine of sustainable development,’ said Sergii Boichenko, Head of the Department of AEMC of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (Institute of IEE) of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, founder and main organiser of the competition.
This event has already become a tradition, as it dates back to 2015, when it was held for the first time on the initiative of the Scientific and Technical Union of Chemical Engineers. However, year after year, the competition reaches a new level, expands its geography, and increases the number of participants and research projects. This year, 40 participants took part in the competition – talented students, postgraduates and young scientists not only from Ukraine but also from all over the world: Canada, China, Poland, and Slovakia. Among the authors of the best works and winners are our KPI students! Nataliia Bolotiuk, a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (ER IEE) of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, presented her own project of modular shelters – dual-purpose structures that can save and preserve people’s lives during massive missile attacks. Such shelters are economical, easy to install, can be manufactured in the shortest possible time and can be installed on a turnkey basis. Most of the creative works were not ignored by the competition partners – leading Ukrainian entrepreneurs and businesses, including Kovalska Industrial and Construction Group, Schneider Electric Ukraine, Autostrada, Aleksprom and others. The partners are ready to engage talented young people in internships at their enterprises under dual education programmes. They are also ready to give students the opportunity to find a job and grow their careers.
‘Our country is now in a situation where we need to make every effort to raise the national economy and Ukrainian business with the help of young people. We need to involve students in our production facilities and enterprises, because thanks to their bright minds and interest in science, many important issues can be resolved today, such as energy efficiency,’ says Kateryna Banshchykova, Head of Health and Safety at Kovalska Industrial and Construction Group.
At the end of October, the authors of the five best winning projects, including Kyiv Polytechnics, will be able to take part in the finals of the XIII International Festival Sikorsky Challenge 2024.
